WOW! You guys should sit around with tea and cake, you winge more than a mothers group.
I have a Limited and it's fantastic on and off road, I say the main problem you all have is you can't afford anything nice and just complain about what everyone else has.
Any car under 50k has a basic interior and i'm more than sure you couldn't find another model with all the same features as the Limited, cruise, leather, heated seats/mirrors-folding,9 speaker stereo 6 stack, bluetooth ect... ect...

Get a life boys but then i'm sure your wives wear the pants.

Well I took a Cherokee for a test drive yesterday.
I like the rugged, solid feel that it has, the cherokee feels solidly put togeather.
The new look is ok, I personally preferred the previous models more rounded look but thats just a personal preference.
The v6 engine drags the almost 2tons of steel around, but I would like to see it with a 4litre v6.

I agree with others that the interior is bland, its almost like they spend all of the development funds on the external areas and simply forgot about the inside.

Jeep why dont you import a manual into Australia? Or why cant I order a manual from the factory? I detest auto's.

Whilst I found the drive to be ok, the 'on-the-fly' 4wd option is nice and the overall package not bad value given the recent specials by Jeep.

There is only 1 BIG issue for me with the Cherokee, and thats the driving position.
Is it just me (i'm 6'4") there is no room for your left foot? Unlike almost every other car i've always been able to streth my left leg out on the left side of the brake, but in the Cherokee there's no room. The foot area is quite small and as such i'm forced to drive with my left
leg bent?

Has anyone else noticed this? Is this something that you just get used to?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Cheers Lee.

I took at look at the sport and limited version yesterday and I expected much, much more, yeah the styling is OK outside, more Jeepish, but the interior is so low rent I was shocked, the plastics were reminiscent of a 1980's camira and the way it all fits together was appauling, My 1996 Cherokee had better quality plastics, you could cut yourself on the rough edges, this is also the case for other Jeeps and Dodge vehicles, apart from the Wrangler for some reason.

I reckon the factory workers have special gloves to put the things together as the edges are lethal.

The size is marginally bigger, more room in the back seat and a little more room in the boot area, but the spare tyre is underneath to get dirty and to take up valuable storage space. The tailgate is so heavy to pull down, my wife asked me to do it, the engine shows plenty of signs of corrosion from its trip over from the USA, its got Japanese componentry fron Denso, so maybe that's an improvement, (my old Cherokee had the same stuff and it regularly broke down, aaaaargh).

I liked the design of the combined engine coolant and windscreen washer bottles at the font of the engine area and then thought about it for a bit, knowing how these things get serviced locally you can be assurred that some apprentice somewhere will fill them both up with coolant or with washer fluid with less than humorous results for the owner.

Sorry, the plastics look bio degradable and stink. I was looking at a Wrangler next to a Cherokee and it has far better plastics and seems much more solid than the Cherokee. Im a Jeep fan to be sure, but I want a reliable car that will take me places and I dont want to spend every weekend tinkering to keep the darn thing on the road.

Sorry Jeep you have not convinced me you've improved over the last 12 years and a 46% break down/reliability rating in the USA and poor resale value assure me that I better put my money into soemthing from Asia or Europe.

ScottB says "So is Autoblog trying to set a record for the number of times you can say the phrase “all-new” in an article, or are they (as my cynical mind suggests) simply reprinting Jeeps’ marketing copy?"

I agree, this looks nothing more than an rehash of a press release. What is a "Low-risk deployment front passenger air bag" anyway? How does this differ, from what I can only assume, to be a high risk airbag in the previous models?

What a dog of a petrol engine. No wonder a 10 year old petrol jeep is only worth its value as scrap metal.

The diesel power looks good though.

Styling 4/10 outside, 3/10 inside.

I hope theres more interior space than the "old" model it replaces, other wise its way too much cash for the metal.

History - I Always thought the outgoing Cherokee was a neat package originally built from 2000 onwards for Soccer mums in the States. Never bought one though. Nice touch having the spare on the back (like the real Jeeps). However, it has its draw backs. After a US Auto Journalist rolled one in a time trial "not kidding"(severe injuries. Jeep lowered the front end 25mm. My neighbour had the previous CRD, it was a lemon, swapped it for a Petrol Captvia! Two ladies I know have the previous CRD and they are over the moon with them "Love my Jeep". It will be interesting to see how this Boxy (Nitro shape)Cherokee sells in the Aust market up against every wanta be 4WD that every maker can produce. Good that Jeep keeps the off road cred. Can someone test drive this thing on the road and off and tell us the real story.

Cheers
