2012 Saab 9-5 SportCombi previewed in video, images

Just days before the its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, the Saab 9-5 SportCombi has been revealed in further detail in a series of images and a new teaser video.

The 2012 9-5 SportCombi will debut in Switzerland alongside the Saab 9-3 Griffin range and the Saab Design concept car.

The SportCombi is expected to arrive in Australia towards the end of 2011, following the 9-5 sedan, which is due in the second quarter of the year.

Overseas, it will be offered with the same drivetrain options as the sedan – including three turbocharged petrol engines (134kW/230Nm 1.6-litre, 164kW/350Nm 2.0-litre, 224kW/400Nm 2.8-litre) and two 2.0-litre diesels (119kW/350Nm and 142kW/400Nm). A BioPower variant of the 2.0-litre petrol engine will also be available.

The 9-5 SportCombi promises to offer impressive technology features including adaptive bi-Xenon headlights, head-up display, three-zone climate control and Saab’s XWD all-wheel drive.

With a load space of 1600 litres with the rear seats folded down, Saab says it expects the versatile five-door SportCombi to be even more popular than the sedan.

The rear of the 9-5 SportCombi is a significant departure from the styling of the smaller and dated 9-3 SportCombi. The overall appearance is sleek and even a little sporty, although at the same time it still feels rather conservative and old-school Saab.

We’ll bring you plenty more images of the 2012 Saab 9-5 SportCombi next week, but until then, enjoy the gallery below.
