Hyundai ix20 awarded 5-Star safety rating

If you’re wondering what the ix20 is, it's Hyundai’s new mini MPV, and Euro NCAP has just awarded it a top score five-star safety rating.

This result marks the fourth consecutive model from the Korean carmaker to receive the maximum safety rating, following the i20, i30 and ix35.

The ix20 is a standout due to its class-leading score of 85 percent in the ‘child occupant protection’ category, where the assessment included the 18-month-old and three-year-old tests.

The Mini MPV also scored well in the ‘adult occupant’ and ‘pedestrian’ categories with an 89 and 64 percent respectively.

The ix20 received maximum points in the ‘side barrier impact’ test as well as good scores for its protection against whiplash in rear end crashes.

With such a high safety rating it’s no wonder that the ix20 had received close to 32,000 orders from Europe as of the end of January 2011.
