Subaru BOXER Sports Car Architecture FT-86 teaser images

By Brett Davis |

Subaru has released a teaser image of its variant of the co-developed Toyota FT-86 concept coupe. Subaru hasn’t revealed the official name of the car yet but is calling it the Subaru Boxer Sports Car Architecture during pre-production stages, as well as initially calling it the Subaru Rear-Wheel Drive Sports Car.

From the little detail the images reveal, what we can see it clearly presents a traditional long-nose/short-rear coupe profile. And as the initial name suggests, the new coupe will be available in rear-wheel drive layout – an  all-wheel drive version could also join the line-up – proving Subaru is highly dedicated on providing handling characteristics of a true sports car.

Subaru hasn’t officially confirmed if the new Subaru Rear-Wheel Drive Sports Car will make a full appearance at next week’s Geneva Motor Show, but the company has announced the opening of a special website dedicated to the event. Subaru says the website will allow users to follow Subaru’s exhibitions and launches, as well as watch a video stream on the major press announcements.

The website can be found at: http://www.subaru-global.com/boxersports.html

In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see if the car is unveiled next week for more details and images. Stay tuned.

Looks interesting but boy this concept car has been around for a while and we still have not seen a full version of eithe rthe Toyota or Subaru version yet!
    I have my doubts..

Those boxer engines are nice and low. Are they going to start putting the spare tyre back under the bonnet?

  • UMWHAT

no one gives a flying fark about this car anymore anyway, just scrap the whole plan and chuck it in the bin Toyota and Subaru.

  • My Cars Called T-Rex

Subaru, could you please give this a name so we can stop calling it a FT-86.

    Thanks.

If that’s the teaser, the car is already looking fairly ordinary…

    • BB

I 100% agree. It looks frumpy (if that’s a word) and my guess is it’ll only get more Impreza like as it progresses

Subaru, just get on with it already

  • Erik Nielsen

They are calling it the “FT-86″ because it will be released as a new part of the Scion line(hence the joint venture between Suburu and Toyota)

  • Blitzkrieg

Lets hope the blokes who designed the new liberty didnt get their hands on this.
