Allot of people saying that Mondeo is faster, that cant be true unless you go turbo but then you might as well go 6 cylinder in Mazda

Quote Drive
The extra torque and the longer, wider body improve the Mazda6's driving dynamics, especially on winding roads. On some hills the engine needs a bit of a prod to kick the auto down a gear but generally it gets on with the job. In our laden uphill 0-100kmh test, the Mazda6 stopped the clock once at 14.9 seconds and then a Mondeo-equalling 15.5 seconds. However, the Mazda was faster to 60kmh than the Ford on both occasions (5.5 versus 6.3 seconds).

Hi there

Had the Mazda 6 manual sports hatchback (luxury) for close to 4 months now and what a great car this is to drive. Interesting to see that the Mazda 6 is considered one of the top models in the various car awards for 2009 (Drive, NRMA). It drives so nicely around the city as well as on the freeways. No reliability problems apart from the sunvisor not staying in position.

When looking at other cars, I came to the following conclusions:

1. Subaru Liberty (older model) - I like the looks but the luxury models were a bit too expensive.
2. Honda Accord Euro - very nice to drive but not impressed with the attitude of the dealer. Hint: don't bag out the other staff in front of customers!
3. VW Passat - the R36 would have been nice but a bit expensive.
4. Toyota Aurion/Camry - not bad cars but a bit dull
5. Skoda - not a bad car really but maybe a bit of an unknown.
6. Audi A4 - sure it may be made in Germany but way too expensive for what you get.
7. BMW 3 series - sure may drive nice but again, I was not interested in paying a lot of money for the label.

In the end, the Mazda 6 really was the best package for me and in spite of some recent new car models, I would not change my decision if I had the chance.

I have just purchased a new maz6 luxury sports end of Oct.
It has just been in for the 1000kms service.
So far not problems except some windows needed re-tinting (out sourced).
Just wondering, how many kms had you done when the squeal sound started?
Which Mazda 6 do you have?
Do you mind saying what state you are in and which dealer?
I am in Melbourne and truly feel its time we as comsumers had better protection
from lemon cars, 6 times back is not good at all.
Have you contacted comsumer affairs? Good idea to keep and document everything including verbal communication.
I do like the car, but dont love it. I think it lacks torgue, and more power would have been handy as it seems we have to keep the revs up to get it to up and go more than the previous vehicle even though this has more power and torque?

Hope it gets sorted for you, how about what someone else did with a problem with another make and record the sound and paste it on you tube for everyone to hear?

my car is a 2009 so bacically brand new got it in June it had around 1000kms on it when i got it. i have lost all faith in mazda. READ THIS IT IS QUITE INTERESTING KEEP IN MIND NOW THE CAR IS A 2009 THE CAR MAKES A CONSTANT LOUD PIG SQUEAL I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER NO LIE 6 TIMES ALREADY & THEY DON\'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. THE SIDE PASSENGER MIRROR FELL OFF HANGING BY WIRES. THE ORIGINAL FACTORY CUSHIONING FOR THE WINDSHIELD IS NOW SHOWING ON THE FRONT DASH. THE PASS SIDE WINDOW MAKES AN ANNOYING CRACKLING SOUND WHEN YOU TURN IT DOWN. THIS CAR IS POORLY CONSTRUCTED I WANT A NEW CAR PREFERABLY NOT A MAZDA I HAD NO MAJOR PROBLEMS W/MY PREVIOUS MAZDA 3. I HATE THE 6 PAYING FOR A 2009 SQUEALING MACHINE IT IS SO EMBARRASSING SO LOUD & THE DEALER ISIN\'T TELLING ME ANYTHING.

I have just purchased a brand spanking new mazda 6 classic hatch (2008) with 5 kilometres on clock for $30000 drive away..i note people are comparing the mondeo turbo to the above ..it may be a nice car .. and go a bit better than the 6 and so on but ford dont match the build quality of mazda ..or at least havent in previous years hence the market value for resale ..ive owned many ford both in uk and in oz and from previous experience i wont buy another..however !! i do understand that they are raising their game ..they have had to to survive ! .. hyundia and the like were all catching them up and passing them in looks .. performance and almost build quility ..ive just sold my ssv ve commy to buy this maz 6 so yes i am downgrading but im happy just to stop the rot in market value alone .. both holden and ford share that unfortunateley ..no matter what model you buy.. and its goin to take more than a mondeo or a cruze to take that away .. your going to loose dollars .. mazda however have always had a reasonably good resale value and over the past couple of years it has improved more so ..the mondeo was alway a bit of a mundane car over in europe ( bit like the commodore in oz) people bought them coz they were reasonabley priced .. and for all you turbo lovers .. its only recently australia has had the ford turbo ( ie focus)
its been around for years overseas so its not anything groundbreaking .. i do like the look of the new mondeo ..externally, but for me the interior looks bloody awfull , but thats just me !! that appeals to some people that like chromed rimmed plastic .. so to cap it all off i would say the mondeo may be cheaper and go harder..but build qaulity ..looks .. and resale the mazda has the edge.. when its time for a change you will make up the difference on trade or sell ... anyway im happy that ive saved nearly $8000 off the original price just by waiting a bit and buying last years build .. i am a bit confused at the minute though as the manual says it has rain sensing wipers and so does the mazda website ..but i havent been out in the rain yet so i wouldnt know , unless thats only just been introduced on the 2009 models ..maybe someone can throw some light onto that .. anyway ..happy motoring all : ))

I have owned the Mazda 6 sports now for 10 months. It is the best car I have ever driven. I still cant get over how good it looks. I am surprised of some comments that it is not good value. My car was supplied with reverse park sensors, xenon headlights with washers, full leather trim, electric seats, 5 speed auto with manual mode, sunroof and a fabulous Bose sound system. And all for well under $50K. I call this great value. Keep it up Mazda.

Had my Mazda 6 luxury for just over a month now. Love it to bits! The only...ONLY...things I have found thusfar I dislike is the tiny glove box (unlike the Mazda 3's which you can slide a coffin into!) and the lighted makeup mirror on the drivers sunvisor...(encouraging bad habits??)
otherwise, handles well, comfortable, good ergonomics, instrumentation..and it looks hot !! (I got the Copper Red)...and the Bose stereo is awesome!!!

"Also I don’t understand why people are comparing an XR5 with the Luxury. Of course the XR5 will be faster and stronger ITS GOT A BLOODY 5 CYLINDER TURBO under the bonnet"

because they are in the same class, and are the "flagship" offerings of both brands, base models the 6 is better i think too, but the XR5 is better over the luxury 6, i think mazda plan to put fords duratc 37 in the 6 to replace the MPS in 2009. (open to correction) be god if we get it

But good job mazda it is a good lookin car.

Only looks good in top spec (luxo/sport variants) and the low models look average. Too dopey looking with that fat rear. Good car, though I would go for the new Accord Euro.
