2011 Saab 9-3 Independence Edition convertible leaked
Images and details of the 2011 Saab 9-3 Independence Edition convertible have leaked onto the internet ahead of the vehicle’s official unveiling on February 23.
Wednesday marks exactly one year since Saab split from General Motors, and the Swedish brand (now owned by Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker) plans to celebrate its ‘Independence Day’ with a limited run of special edition vehicles.
The 9-3 Independence Edition will be limited to 366 vehicles around the world – one for each day since separating from GM and another one to represent the first anniversary of the split.
According to enthusiast website Saabs United, the limited edition will be based on the Aero Convertible and include a number of unique features: Sunset Red body colour, leather seats with orange pinstripe, orange turbo instrument needle, Hirsch leather instrument panel, ‘Super Sport’ steering wheel and 18-inch twin-five-spoke alloy wheels.
Each vehicle will also have a build number out of 366 etched into the left rear window.
The special edition soft-tops are understood to be powered by the 164kW/350Nm 2.0T BioPower engine from the 9-5.
