2008 Renault Scénic Expression dCi

2008 Renault Scénic Expression dCiThe latest model to join the diesel-powered Renault range is the Scenic Expression dCi, marketed as an economical alternative to the traditional Australian family car.
The Scenic Expression dCi is powered by a turbo-charged 1.9 litre diesel engine mated exclusively to a pro-active four speed automatic transmission.

Producing 96kW and 250Nm from 1600rpm, the 1.9-litre diesel offers comparable power output to the 2.0-litre petrol whilst producing 30 percent more torque at less than half the rpm.

Boasting a combined fuel consumption of 7.1 l/100km the Scenic dCi has a theoretical range of just under 850km from its 60 litre fuel tank.

Standard Expression features include ESP with understeer control, dual front, side and curtain airbags, cruise control, automatic headlamps and wipers, automatic park brake, electric mirrors and windows and 16” trimmed steel wheels.

The Expression dCi becomes the third model in the five-seat Scenic line-up, topping the range at $37,990.

    Surely the torque figure should read 250Nm, not the stated 205, unless this figure is developed right up to about 4800rpm????

    Surely it’s suppose to be 250. Especially when the Abarth FIAT 500 makes 200+ Nm from a 1.4 Petrol. My Punto’s 1.9L Turbo Diesel makes 280Nm

    Masses of these around here peeps. My only gripe is with build quality and customer service with Renault. We never got our Luguna sorted properly and Renualt were not bothered. Never Again.

    Maybe the torque figure was a typo should be around 305nm if every other companies 2.0L diesel can produce at least 320-340nm if not then we’re being sent old crap because we’re seen as ignorant when it comes to diesel’s buy many car makers!!!!

    Carl..you Aussies are anything but ignorant mate esp when it comes to cars. just checked my magazine (What Diesel Car) it quotes the 1.9 as 130 BHP and 222 lbft torque or for you metricites 96Kw and 300Nm. Funnily enough there is also a 2.0 dCi rated at 112.5Kw and 338Nm. Why don’t you have this one. Best Nag Renault Australia.

    The last Scenic here also had a 4wd version funny looking thing but Renault have not released this version as 4WD. Won’t be long though as Seat have a 4WD Altea. Cool.

    The Senic is not a car that is suppose to look good. It’s a practicle solution for people that don’t want to be seen in a Tarago or that fugly Honda Odditty that looks like someone sat on it.

    I have a friend who hate’s my French car collection but had to look after another mates house who had a senic. His wife drove it, he drove it “to see what all the fuss is about.” and they both fell in love with it.

    See, a lot of people don’t get the point with French cars. It’s not about the looks. I personally think there are some real ugly ones, but the same goes for most manufacturers. So lets be fair. But what the French do best is design small cars with ample power that handle really well and get people from point A to B safely. You might pay a premium over that, but I’d rather that then arrive tired in a Commodore or a $70K Tarago.

    No name, Thanks mate i don’t think we are all (diesel)ignorant either don’t get me wrong, but i do think that SOME car makers have sent us some older under powered and noisy diesel models recently ie; Suzuki vitara and Pajero to just name a couple so thats where my suspicions that some car makers see us as ignorant when it comes to diesel engines comes from.

    Love your comments, you seem pretty imformed and balanced in your opinions…. thanx

    Thanks Carl. I knwow for a fact that you have the up-to-date diesels. I check the outputs from memory and my usual read What Diesel Car. I’m probably a bit of an anorak when it comes to diesels but they are much more fun to drive as average cars. Yep I know the V6 V8 thing is good fun as well and appreciate the following of these. I do drive a V6 diesel witha bit of gusto. 225kmh today for a blast.

    In the UK they have a transmission option for the Scenic with 6 gears… what are we getting here for Australia as in transmission options other than the 4speed mentioned above???, it would be nice to see the 6 speed variants… or are we being offered the RHD lower spec hand me downs…
