Renault Laguna ‘Most Beautiful Car’ at Melbourne Show
February 20, 2008 by George Skentzos
Visitors to the Melbourne Motor Show will be treated to a car which has recently been voted the “Most Beautiful Car of the Year”. Guessed what it is yet?
The Renault Laguna Estate was recently named ‘Most Beautiful Car of the Year’ and ‘Most Beautiful Interior of the Year’ by the International Automotive Festival of Paris – completely unbiased, of course.
The Laguna Estate is offered with a 2.0 dCi engine delivering maximum power output of 110kW and 340Nm of torque from 2000rpm.
The Laguna Hatch on which the Estate is based was the first vehicle to secure a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating with a total of 36 points from a possible 37, which remains as one of the highest scores ever recorded during Euro NCAP tests.
The Laguna is fitted with an array of passive and active safety technology and features, such as curtain airbags and ESP, particular attention has been paid to side impact performance.
It also features a system based on two sensors incorporated in the front door and B-pillar with the ability to reduce impact detection and airbag deployment times by up to half of the best systems currently available.
The Laguna hatch will go on sale here in Australia in June, with the Estate to follow later this year.

Good saftey levels. BUT GEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ THIS CANT BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CAR VOTED JUST LOOK AT THE BASIC GRILL AND UGLY LIGHTS!!!!!!!!! YUK!! LAST – GEN LOOKS BETTER!
Well, the front end looks much like the old Frogmobile from Citroen – and that was no picture I can tell you.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the beholder of this vehicle is obviously blind
Like the rear but fronts a bit naaaaa!
I really want to like this car, but the front end seems wrong, from any other angle it’s a stunner but until i see it in the flesh i’ll have to say GORGEOUS from every angle except the front and that’s no small obstacle to overcome!!!
Yep nothing special to look at. I’ve see a few of these about and they don’t exactly jump out as being special.
Hope it more reliable than the last Laguna. My wife had one which was the worst car i’ve driven in years, crap quality, fell apart, not even Renault could get it to work properly.
Nice looking rear… a bit like a BMW 1 series. Yet the front does look alot like the old Citroen CS-1.
Wheelnut, could you please help me out at the “2008 Falcon first images” article. Please!
BK is being ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happened to the front end…..?? Obviously the guy designing headlights have never met the guy designing the front bumper…..
That is an ugly car!
I like the look of the mondeo estate more than this, but I’ll admit the renault laguna coupe concept looks brillant.
I say they were on drugs or pissed to come up with this as the most beautiful car.
I don’t know about it being the most beautiful but it certainly is easy on the eye. BTW, when will Renault be bringing out the latest Clio? It’s been on European roads for 2 years now!
Must look good in the flesh, because in the photos it is damn ugly
Well, I love the Scenic, megane, Clio, Espace, Vel satis, Avantime and the old Laguna, but this is looking unhinged.
I’ve worked it out!!! this thing from the front looks just like Lisa Simpson in the episode where she has the mumps….it’s a dead ringer.
I’m going to come to the cars defence here and say that photos do not do it justice. You really need to see it in the metal to appreciate it.
I like it because it doesn’t look like the car next to you in traffic, which in Sydney is either a Corolla, or a Corolla… and sometimes a 3
Thats ugly all the way around.
There is no way this is the worlds most beautiful car!! There are much better looking cars around than this. Take for example the new Audi A4 Advant in the previous article, looks much better than this.
I definatly agree the previous model looked much better than this one.
Yuks, definitely not to me.
I actually think the Peugeot 308 wagon would have to be one of the best looking wagons on the market at the moment, way better than this!
ugly……. every frog needs their eyes tested.
i love this saw it a bims and was stunnig interior is a work of art even better than fg falcon remember reult is like the ford of france and citreon and peugeot are the holden and mitsubishis
Average, the new Citroen C5 is much better looking.
agreed myke, if i was considering a french car thats the one I’d get, a c5 estate, in black. The renault just looks like someone grabbed its arse and stretched it back just a little bit too far, like a piece of blue-tack.
And the front is a bit… nothing really. It has no real emotional impact on me. Even the camry’s front has some emotional impact on me (rage and repulsion). This just doesn’t do anything.
I’m sure its a great car though, just hope renault have rediscovered how to make cars that last more than 20000km.
how about the alfa romeo 159 sport wagon i think its called…automotive pronography….or the 8c? or Brera….pretty much anything Alfa!!!
Ok, I have now seen one of these in the flesh. I think it looks great except for one thing: the door handles. It’s a common thing these days that when you see a car front-on, the back door handles are higher than the front. I’m ok with that. However, with the new Laguna, it seems that the rear door handles follow a different line to the front ones. They just don’t seem to match. Very odd..
its sooo beautiful!!! i love it! i test drove it
its such a beaut to drive! and yeah it looks great!!! but i really do hope they bring the wood interior to aus
looks soo much better!!!
nice one renault!
What a joke, one of the uglier cars Ive seen.
