Lancia Stratos gets 40 prospective orders

Those who are interested in buying a brand new model Lancia Stratos - and who isn't? - may need to get your cheque books ready. The original one-off model was a concept created by Michael Stoschek, an enthusiastic German business man, and Pininfarina. But now that over 40 very interested people have expressed demand, the two are thinking of producing a few limited editions.

Pininfarina and Stoschek have said that with even more publicity of the car to be exhibited in upcoming popular magazine issues, demand is expected to rise even higher than the 40 buyers already interested.

The new Lancia Stratos was created as one-off project funded by Stoschek who simply loved the original Lancia Stratos; a small two-seat sports car, powered by Ferrari. The new model is no different. The entire underpinnings of the new car, including the engine, transmission and differential all come from a Ferrari 430.

Due to the Ferrari heritage, if the new Lancia Stratos were to go into limited production, prices would be around $540,000 to $734,000. This price includes the cost of a Ferrari 430 donor car, $134,000 (European price conversion), plus an additional $404,000 for the cost of the conversion. Still interested?

No matter how much it costs, it's hard to argue with those looks.
