2011 Jeep Wrangler on sale in Australia

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler range is on sale now in Australia with an all-new interior, an upgraded turbo-diesel engine and the same world-famous off-road four-wheel drive capability.

Power from the retuned diesel engine is up 17kW to 147kW, available at 3600rpm. In six-speed manual mode, torque is up 10Nm to 410Nm from 2200rpm to 2600rpm, while in the five-speed automatic it remains at 460Nm between 1600rpm and 2600rpm.

Combined cycle fuel consumption when mated to the automatic transmission is 7.1 litres/100km, down 25 percent from the previous model’s 9.4 litres/100km. The manual variant is equipped with start-stop technology – shutting down the engine when the vehicle is in neutral and the clutch released.

The 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine is unchanged, and continues to offer 146kW and 315Nm of torque. It is available with a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.

The Wrangler Sport V6 uses 11.5 litres/100km in manual mode (Wrangler Rubicon 12.5 litres/100km) and 11.6 litres/100km with the automatic.

Jeep continues to offer the Jeep Wrangler as a short-wheel base two-door four-seater, as well as the longer wheel base Wrangler Unlimited with four doors and five seats. Both continue to be available in Sport and Rubicon specifications, and both are available with soft and hard roofs.

The new interior features a redesigned instrument panel, higher quality materials and additional storage areas. The new steering wheel is leather-wrapped and includes controls for audio, cruise and other functions. The console is now lockable, the armrests have been redesigned for greater comfort and the centre stack is easier to reach and operate.

Heated power mirrors are also standard, while the rear windows on the ‘Freedom Top’ three-piece hardtop are now larger to provide greater rear visibility.

Jeep says the Wrangler’s acoustics have been a focus of its engineers, with the result being a quieter interior across the range.

The Rubicon variants continue to come with remote locking differentials with Dana 44 solid axles front and rear, electronically controlled sway bar disconnect, Rock-Trac transfer case, heavy duty rock rails, Freedom Top and premium audio.

Standard features include front airbags, ESC with brake assist, traction control, electronic roll mitigation, brake locking differentials, 17-inch alloy wheels, six-speaker CD player with an AUX port, tyre pressure monitoring warning lamp and a manual headlamp levelling system.

Side airbags are a $450 option but curtains are not available. Voice command Bluetooth phone and audio streaming can be optioned separately for $490 or as a part of the $2650 Navigation Media Centre package.

The Wrangler two-door offers 142 litres of boot space with the rear seats up, 425 litres with the folded and 714 litres with them completely removed. The Wrangler Unlimited has 498 litres of space behind the rear seats and expands to 935 litres with the bench folded down.
