Video: Mitsubishi ASX, Outlander set five world records

Mitsubishi has released a video of the Mitsubishi ASX and Mitsubishi Outlander SUVs setting five world records in 24 hours on the ice and snow at Ghost Lake, Alberta, Canada.

The fact that Mitsubishi uses the phrase “setting” records rather than “breaking” them, and the fact that they are all rather specific, suggests to us that the vehicles are the first and only ones to be officially tested by the Guinness people in the five disciplines.

The video and records may simply be the result of the wild imaginations of the public relations people at Mitsubishi and not really evidence that the vehicles are more capable than any others, but the feats are all still rather impressive, and showcase the vehicles’ all-wheel drive prowess.

The five records set by the ASX (Outlander Sport in North America) and Outlander were: shortest braking distance by a vehicle on ice, fastest driven square lap, fastest slalom relay on ice, most vehicle figure eights on ice in two minutes, and greatest distance driven by a vehicle in reverse on snow in 30 seconds.

The vehicles were driven by stuntman Garvin Cross, who has doubled for Daniel Craig in films on the frozen lake.

The footage will now be used in Mitsubishi’s advertisements for the vehicles to demonstrate their extreme weather performance and capabilities.
