Yep Dlr1> definitely two different parties which will benefit from the new Roller’s features.

A) Longer range fuel tank is definitely a plus for the owner (for obvious reasons), and

B) The fuel economy benefits are more a plus to Rolls-Royce themselves; the economy card is played by RR so they can look more environmentally (and socially) responsible. The Germanness in the company is coming out there (efficiency, efficiency, efficiency)

I have no doubt they are a magnificent vehicle, and will sell exceptionally well to their intended audience, but why do their press blurbs have to go on about economy.

The only economy thats important to Roll’s customers is the international economy. GDP always wins over MPG.

I’m happy for RR that BMW took them over;

Despite the glitter ball roof, like the Phantom it just oozes class and true quality. The Maybach looks totally naff and plasticky, and completely tasteless.

Oh and I just read they may be shoving a diesel engine in a Rolls in 2012..Ref. Autocar Magazine UK..Maybe theres a chance then.

Me Fishing Naahh orrible wriggly smelly things. I’m not knocking BMW just the old Rolls of days gone by were…well Rolls Royce. Now they are BMW engines rebodied 7 series. Not exactly Rolls really.

I can’t afford one either so they are crap…Ha Ha

this is purely academic but i’ve seen the torque figure for this engine quoted at over 720nm elsewhere. (just in case the lower figure here(531) puts anyone off!)

I saw a Phantom Drophead on the road today – magnificent! I’m told Rolls Royce are selling as many as they can build. I don’t doubt it, my only concern is why on earth you would opt for a Maybach when you could have a Phantom at less than half the price!

Exactly how many vehicles are in this “segment”?

Looks good but that roof looks so ugly. I think when Top Gear had the prototype on the show Jeremy said it right “it looks like a hens night disco ball on the roof”.
