Ford to unveil ‘groundbreaking new vehicle’ at Geneva

Ford will unveil a “groundbreaking new vehicle” at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show when it kicks off on March 1.

Little is known about what Ford has planned, but the world premiere has been deemed important enough for Ford Motor Co CEO, Alan Mulally, to make a video appearance at its press conference (although potentially not important enough to demand his physical presence).

Earlier this week, CarAdvice reported on rumours about plans for a born-again GT40 supercar, but with no further information from Ford, everyone is simply speculating on what may be revealed in Switzerland in around three weeks’ time.

Judging by Ford’s recent unveilings, expect it to be packed with interior technology and powered by an alternative powertrain.

Ford will also use its press conference on March 1 to reveal the latest developments in its “customer-friendly technologies”.

Sharing its global debut with the new secret vehicle will be the all-new Australian-engineered Ford Ranger Wildtrak utility.

The Ford Vertrek concept, Focus Electric and C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid will make their European debuts after they headlined for the Blue Oval at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last month.

An updated Mondeo ECOnetic will be launched with an 85kW 1.6-litre TDCi engine, incorporating start/stop technology for CO2 emissions of 114g/km.

The eye-catching Ford Individual-designed Metal Ka will be revealed alongside the all-new Fiesta RS World Rally Car, which will be fresh from the first round of the championship in Sweden.

Rounding out Ford’s Geneva highlights will be the zero emissions Transit Connect, which will go on sale in Europe later this year, and a range of powertrain enhancements for Ford’s large vehicles, including Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy.
