Why has fords rear doors copped so much attetion & focus on rear door entry in the last 2 years.When the design has been around since au?At least you can see better out of the Falcon than a commodore.Maybe the Holden marketing team with the help from the holden bios mainstream motoring media needed to draw attetion away from the fact that the commodre has poor rearward vision.Anyway I ment the frort end styling looks to be a a close copy & moving the fuel tank ahead of the axel,it may not be a world first but between ford & holden,ford did it first.Holden could have done it first if thay wanted too but thay didn’t have to being able to sell a old generation commodore up againt the ba-bf(which is a far superior car)and still top falcon sales.Doing this by frendiy media & using the Aussie car angle in marketing.Holden is the default car maker for Australians who don’t have a perefrence.The new rear doors on the orion should be good you won’t bump your head and you can still see out the back.Go FORD

Ahh wait on Bob Lutz has flagged the Torana/Pontiac G6 bbeing released by 2010-2012.. 4 years away which is barely enough time to design the new expansion of the Elizabeth plant; get thh designs approved; commence cinstruction; find the right robots and program them to do the required tasks inorder to build the Car.

It’s platform mightn’t be Aussie….will be either the Alpha platform used under the ManGenta TT-36 Concept Car or the Insignia platform which will also be used under the upcoming Vectra which could [Hopefully] see a return tto Oz along with Other opels

But the key factor in the descision will probably be the market which has the greater projected/expected sales which on size alone would more likely be the USA-Canada

That’s what I was getting at I doubt there will be another commodore after this.. It’s more likely Holden will go for a more Compact car like the [imported] Torana which will be able to take V6 TT-V6 and V8 engines as well as be RWD or AWD – If they use the Insignia Platform

The next gen commodore is already well into the design stage. The Commodore will survive regardless with the middle east market as well where it sells well and has for many years. At least Holden take precautions. I remember mny ford problems of the car slipping from Park to reverse or drive. Friends of ours had a xe fairmont that nearly killed the wife when it slipped into drive from Park while she got out to check her mail. I never heard of recalls for that cdommon deadly problem. Very familiar with Ameican Lincolns as well.

I feel they will initially import the Torana – yet continue to call it a Commodore.. as that is their most recognised name..

then they will probably overhaul the Elizabeth factory and start making it here by about 2016 as Holden is the R7D Cente for GMs RWD projects

I can’t see the “Compact-odore” being built here any time before that as Holden will want to recover the cost of the VE Robots which took up most of the $1Bn budget and that oculd take some time.. they will then need extra money for the possible overhaul

You’re right about them [GM] wanting to kill off the Commodore in 2002.. thats around the same time when GM wanted Holden to take use the Pontiac Sigma platform..

Holden engineers looked at and deemed unsuitable for a car like the Commodore not to mention Australias uniwue climate etc..

They took a gamble and designed the new Zeta platform [Commodore] as well as the Alpha Platform [TT-36 Concept] which ironically could be used under the next Pontiac G6 – which used to use the Sigm Platform GM wanted Holden to use.

all the surveys prove is that toyota delivers better service……
not that they deliver better quality cars.

surveys are opinionative and not factual. opinions reflect emotions and if someone has poor service from ford or holden then they see a minor problem as a massive mark on the company.

on the other hand if someone were to have a major problem with a toyota yet got awesome response and service from toyota they would see it better than having a mnor problem with poor service

Well holden has allready handed the comodore over to the Yanks so they have become Pontiacs in USA. Holden think they will make the torana but the government here wont help out like they do with other companies so they close em down. So we have to rely on imports and if a torana gets goin then 90 percent of the car will be imported from asia. So how many years will the torana survive for. Maybe only for a few years till they go broke again cause of government control of car industry.
Holden not so good and then Ford isnt so good.
Everybody wants fuel efficient cars and Holden and Ford dont have em. Big cars are on the way out and small cars are in. And who will lead in small cars thats easy the asians will. In china up to 5000 jobs are created each day cause of cheap labour. The chinese who live in the villages are moving to the cities cause they can make money for themselves. Here in OZ we cant compete with the way chineses go so we are all slowly relying on them now to supply us the car parts. Jobs are slowly disapearing here and soon we wont have a car industry. So whoever thinks that the comodore and falcon will survive in our country well u gotta really think about that cause they wont. By 2020 u wont see falcons and comodores built in OZ anymore cause they are to big and use to much fuel and u will see a generic version of em and so far its happening to the commodore. Also remeber its the badge that really tells u wat car it is. Our government here just dont care about Holdens and Fords anymore. They love the cheap low quality stuff.
