Ford has released a teaser image of the new 2008 Ford Falcon ahead of its official unveiling to the press this Sunday.

You do have a point, the glory big-numbers day are over.
None the less i think Ford in Oz can survive with 30,000 unit per year.If NZ and S/Africa take more it will all help.
Holden are in a strong position as they have export program in place.
As for BigT, the Aurion is just a rehased Camry so they are in the best spot, and sales are going up and up…

Better be a beauty as suspect it wont be that different from current model aside from door handles, some other incidentals and headlights. The rest I feel is new…but tweaked a tad over existing.

Also, the Orion Falcon should receive a 5-Star crash test rating because if a tiny Toyota Yaris can get a result like that, so can a large sedan and I’ve seen on, caradvice.com.au/8661/2008-ford-falcon-orion-details/ That’s likely to be what’s happening.

FO, I’m sure Ford would love to shift 30,000 Falcons a year, but that’s lofty Commodore territory at the moment.
1252 is all the Falcon could muster in January, despite massive price cuts and loading the options.
That’s just what Mitsubishi tried with the 380 when they realised they were heading for the rocks.
As Naughtyius Maximus correctly says, there’s not much different about the new model. That means there’s nothing to stop the rot. If you need a tow sedan, though, it would be a no-brainer - problem for Ford is, not many people want a tow sedan, they prefer a 4WD for towing as they should.

Spot on Reckless1. In August 2006 I did a 6 week holiday trip to SA, NT and Western Qld and by far the majority of grey nomads (and there a lot of them) were towing caravans using 4WD’s. In fact Commodores and Falcons were almost non existent.

ford can survive with lower sales than the commy because they make up production numbers with the territory and soon to add Focus.
ford doesnt rely on the falcon as much to bring home the bacon as holden relies on the commy

Both fifth gear and top gear love the VXR8 because it is cheap, fast and great value for money. Now the faster of the falcon models XR6T and Typhoon are according to the press are the better handlers of the models here.
So why is it that we get mondeo, focus etc but we cannot send falcon to europe. Is Ford world wide so stupid and short sighted not to see that unless it starts to think outside of the box that it is in, it will not be a force as a car maker in the future.
If we follow the line of the US the next model falcon will be a XY GT with plastic bumpers.
At least we design good looking cars in Australia that dont need to remind us of yesterdays parts bin and the past glory days, instead of trying creating them in the future!

hey guys… on another topic… has any one heard about the GTSR… they now think they will be putting the LS9 in… 6.2litre supercharged V8…. 400-465Kw….
if that thing comes out… ford better respond quickly!!! we cant wait till 2010-2011 for the GT-HO Pharse 5 to respond to this… Maybe ford should start a New legend in a F6-HO…. 4-litre Inline 6 Turbo or twin Turbo putting out 400Kw and a mountian load of torque down low??
i think that would be pretty good and a great send off to the Inline 6… make the thing all about speed… make the car light and give it more shove then a space shuttle… they think the new Typhoon will be 300kw and will do sub 5s… what would a 400kw Typhoon with less wieght do low 4s i would think as the Torque will me massive and early…. just an idea?? what do you guys think???

That would be too logical! Just ask the many experts on this blog, they know everything.
They have been former CEO’s and were around back in the early 20th century when Ford, GM and Crysler were young companies and know exactly the cost and product structure of each company…
I get tired of having to spell out what exactly will be new and carry over in the new orion.
It’s a pity the same questions aren’t being asked about carry over items in camry, 380 and ANY japenese vehicle.
That may expose the truth!

There are no carry over panels, sills up!
Some think that the roof is a carry over - wrong. EG The top of the A-pillar is some 100mm farther from the driver, whilst the C-pillar is farther back to give a wider rear door entrance. Both are major structural differences.

Commodore sales are falling cause everybody is waiting for the new falcon. Mitsubishi is dead so Ford has that edge over others to sell a lot of cars now. Holden is in panic mode now cause they allready know that the Falcon will easily be better than VE. Bring it on Ford keep on the destruction of other car mnufactures. You where the first in this country and will leave last. Commodore will soon be 100% Pontiac and the Falcon will remamin Falcon.

mate the falcon is as economical as large cars get with out any upgrade.
why do they have to make it more economical? yes it would be nice i suppose but why dont they just make some commaercials that say “the big 6 game has changed” and perhaps people will believe it just like they did when toyota said it.
this will be BA falcon all over again in the way it will lead the market class for the many years after its release.
what they have to do this time is not let the others catch up. dont drag this one out for 6 yrs so that the others catch up before refreshing again
in certain months the BA falcon actually outsold the commy which wasnt bad coming off the back of the sales disaster AU falcon and that there were big waiting lists for some of the performance falcons.
so this time ford, once you start to claw back sales and it flattens out, have another hit with an update model rather than let the sales drop and think about it

Not bad for Ford with a 6 yr old car. New car for 2010 so thats only 2 yrs away and it will be more American then aussie made by then. New VE didnt do much, by 2010 VE Commydore will be more Pontiac. Slowly all aussie cars coming to an end. Cant wait to buy a 2015 falcon from USA.

I think a good ad for the base model Falcon would be a chase with a Commodore, Aurion & Falcon. It would show the Commy and Aurion after the Falcon and they have troble catching up with the Falcon and the Falcon pulls away. At the end the aurion and commy loose site of the falcon so they give up and stop at a petrol station. and the Falcon keeps going. - Please Ford, do an ad like that!

What I;d like to know is in an attempt to appease those who were shocked to see ads showing cars driving along a windy road at what they believe to be excessive speed..
why are we now seeing ads with cars driving around on the top of high rise buildings.. Both the Focus/Fiesta and Captiiva ads.

BM youre right; from all reent reports on the Orion the F6 will have 300Kw; and the GT 320Kw
So I suspect an HO would have to have at least 350Kw.. Then of course there’s the GTS-R wiht the 400Kw LS9 yet it;s expected to be a limited edition like the VR model
The Base Orion could have 200Kw .. I’ve also heard that the VEII could also have 200Kw in the Omega.

You right Wheelnut, A GTS-R and HO will only be limited edtion. GTS-R with LS7 or LS9. GT-HO with a hurricane V8 or supercharged 5.4
I can’t believe after I first saw the Wheels mag almost a year ago…and now we will see it this weekend! Who would of thought it would take so long?

i have heard maybe 315Kw for the GT…. if true… i think some people really will be pissed!!! considering HSV will have the 6.2 litre later this year with 325Kw
i heard base falcon will have 205Kw @ 395nm
the GTSR will be about 485Kw if they use the Same engine as the ZR-1…i think the Ho will need to be more then 350Kw… more like 450Kw…. they should do what holden does and borrow an engine… they should get the GTX1 engine… 700hp = 522Kw its just a modded GT40 engine… different Supercharger and better Exhaust… that about it… and it only 5.4litre V8….

Remember the Hurricane V8 will be SOHC, shut-off 4 cylinders(Like modern Hemis) and can be stroked over 7.0L. That should be ok for a GT-HO.

FORD can get more power than 320kW out of their 5.4L.
I doubt they would mention FPV’s power outputs this weekend, maybe a suprise is on the way. We do know if the GT isn’t over 320KW & 570NM, the F6 will be better so it’s a killer.

Ford had a SOHC 7.0L along time ago, but it was huge. There’s a 30s Ford V8 hot rod in Australia with one and it’s so big the motor sticks out the side.
If a Hurricane V8 will be used in a FPV GT-HO, what can I say? It will be good.
GTHOs must handle too, we don’t want an over powerd killer. Because we must remember “HO” in GT-HO stands for “handling option”.

Chopstar……….I understand what your saying ……..but not everything is about cubes….I know they say you want more inches stroke it,and in a recent article I think in Popular Hot Rodding there was something on some 600 cubic Ford inch monster to match Chev ……….is that about 10 liters? I dont know ……..its about efficiency,look at what they do already with 5.4…….Im thinking Ford do a pretty good job with their cubes considering the 5.4 is such a short stroke engine….

XR5 focus, - got 2 in stock at our dealership
diesel Focus - got 4 in stock
entire Mondeo range - worst case 8 weeks waiting time (have you tried ordering any other imported car in a combination thats not a best seller)
and
F6X - Its only just been officially released, give it a few weeks

FPV will run with the ‘HO’ and it is planned to be 351kw with some very special body, suspension, interior touches; 18 - 20 months away.
