Just bought a turbo diesel manual in july 09 (thanks Kevin Rudd for paying for half of it) and love it.Amazing performance after coming from a transit 2lt 4cyl.Leg room in the iload excellent im 6 ft 4 105 kg, the only thing was you cant get cruise control as an option aftermarket only.Getting around 750km per tank around town so totally rapt with it.

Drove the iLoad 5 speed turbo deisel today 30/5/2009 and was most impressed. The power of this turbo deisel is amazing. I accidentally spun the wheels in first and 2nd gears....I wonder what would have happenned if I was actually trying??? I have happily used a 1999 2.4i petrol Hiace for the last 7 years and consider it a good workhorse over its 120Ks of my ownership, no wheel spinning here though but more than ample pickup for a trade vehicle.
Up front the iLoad has good creature comforts, good stereo with iPod/MP3 connection, good air con, well laid out controls and insrtument panel comfortable seats (183cm 100kg driver) easy access to driver seat, plenty of seat and steering adjustments, good cabin space and stowage though I would prefer fold down centre seat backrest/holder to have a lid so things would'nt fall out when put back upright.
Rear load space good and easy access from either side or rear.
The price $33,490 on the road I think will do me as the toyota did not quite impress as much and cabin space tight and access to drivers seat not as easy plus about an extra 4k on the road. I may go with the barn doors.
Thanks for all your inputs.

Cheers

I bought the iLoad in July '08 and have already got 40k+km's on it, 90% motorway driving and am having issues with the front brakes. Have already had the discs machined once and the same issue has returned. Hyundai are refusing to replace the discs and pads under warranty and have quoted me nearly $1000 for the job. One of the reasons I bought it was the warranty and I'm concerned that replacing the discs with genuine parts, am I going to have the same problem return. Anybody else with brake issues?

Had mine for 6 months now and covered 15000K. Not had a problem, still drives superb. The only thing it's missing is a rear wiper!!! I'm getting close to 800 k from a full tank. [Deisel auto]. Getting loads of tradies asking about it, becomming very popular/common on Queensland roads.

Im buying one tommorow, to much truck with too many features to ignore. I really wanted to talk myself into a Hiace, but i just cant do it. Hiace is a box on wheels with no leg room, weak performance and arrogantly overpriced as well. Even if they were the same price i dont think you can go past the warrenty and inclusions of the Hyundai.
In saying all that....... Im still nervous! lol.

Classic Comments on the Mitsu Death Express,
I drove a mates recently and noticed the body hasn\'t changed in mega years (great for spares) and now it finally has a decent 2.4, however the right front wheel arch is too high forcing the drivers seat to be too high, I had to stoop to drive it as my head hit the roof. Mistu needs to bring back the semi bonneted expresso van.

Buyers beware,
These vans need glazing standard on the left side to sight incoming cars (port side) when reversing out of a car park.

I reckon the i-load is too expensive.

Once Upon A Time on this website I praises iLoad, bought one, convinced a friend to buy one too, and convinced another buyer reading this forum. A friend who uses a HiAce advised me dont buy this Hyundai as sooner or later something ’small’ will fall apart and I said no way, Hyundai has changed. Well, as I am a courier for Australia Post which mean I have to open the door at least 1000 times a week the door latch broke and I have to open the window (and its 40ºC today in Perth)to unlock the door from the outside. And Hyundai took their sweet time to get the spare part from Sydney to Perth (ordered Tuesday and they must have send it through the Nullarbor) and wont arrive until Tuesday. So, iLoad has its good look (just like having a pretty wife but she got ‘headache’ all the time) but when this ’small’ thing happen to a major like door its DAMN ANNOYING. So DONT BUY iLoad its full of iShit!!!

Well Frugal One considering the vehicle was in your oppinion over priced with a big list of minus points, you seemed to change your tune and buy one pretty quick,

This is a great van 160 000 klm warrenty, loads of power and a great price when compared to the commpetitors.

Just recently Newcastle Taxis started using the 8 seat i Max which is the people mover varient and all the drivers ive spoken to think its a great car...

Riles,
Have you been able to get any price on roof rack from your dealer ?
Are you getting Telstra-type one with ladder rails or just tradesmen one ?

Regarding windows in sliding doors, it says on the web site you can get them bonded but only as an option ... so there is no need to buy crew van.

How much they want for alloys ?

Well I took the petrol manual for a spin today. A bit of a step down in terms of cushiness compared to my VZ auto ute, but not too bad. Pretty noisy from the rear but then there was no rubber mat in this one.

I'd probably prefer the auto but then I'd have to get the diesel...

Dealers prices were quoted with no talk of discount.
2.4 ltr petrol $32953 on road.
Plus $550 for twin doors
Plus $350 for metallic silver
Then I'd need roof racks (would need to move the aerial), aircon curtain, tow bar.
Would like alloy wheels too so it's gonna get pricey.

I tried backing down my driveway and could not see the road on the left at all. There was no way of seeing if there was oncoming traffic due to there being no window on the passenger sliding door. Big problem IMO.

The only way to get windows is to order the crew version and take out the seats etc.

You've done well at $38500 diesel auto twin doors drive away. My price was $40,233 on road plus the doors and metallic paint.

Well I've just about talked myself out of getting one. Thanks for listening and responding. Good luck with yours, I hope you like it. They look great and will have a nice presence on the road. I'm sure they're going to be popular. He sold one yesterday to Chubb Security.

Riles -

I would have gone for a ULP if it came with auto.It does in the IMAX but not in the iload...groan

Yes a diesel will be worth more thanks to its long life

I believe they do have racks, ladders, and different options all official factory avail.

Barn doors are $550 extra, well worth it.

Vito is overpriced and underdone, VW almost the same.

If you want value and quality you need to go Asian.Simple!

Cheers

Vito is overpriced and underdone, VW almost the same.

If you want value and quality you need to go Asian.Simple!

Cheers

Thanks F-O.
I like the barn doors too - they are extra $500ish right?
I'm okay with manual so that's a couple of k's less.
I'll get the silver one so that's $350 more.

I'd like to get the alloys that come with the imax too so I'll see if they can do it and how much difference it would add to cost.

I also need roof racks for my ladders so I wonder what to do with the friggin aerial on the roof!

I'll test drive them both tomorrow (Diesel auto and petrol manual) and then try to decide.
Resale not too worried about as I'll probably keep it for a long time.
Is the diesel better for longevity? - ie. will it last longer than the petrol motor?

I heard the Vito diesels have some pricey problems with fuel pumps/motors.

I'm leaning more towards the petrol version unless I can find some reasons to stump up an extra 4.5k for diesel.

Riles -

I drove one today and am close to buying it subject to reaching th change-over deal i am after.

The ULP is manual only, if your wifey wants to drive and wants auto its diesel only. They go fine, smooth, quiet and ride well.2nd hand more demand for diesel engines too.

I am at $38,500 driveaway diesel-auto-barndoors less my 2 x trade ins of which should know tommorow

Its a good jigger and $10k less than a similar benz/vw van

cheers

I'm seriously looking at getting me one of these Iloads to replace my VZ ute.
I love the look of them and the size is just right for what I do.
A couple of questions before I walk into the dealers office:

Petrol or diesel?
I don't do any more than 10,000km a year. I'm not real worried about fuel economy, and 99% of the time there's only me in the van and not much else.

However - my wife has a horse and horse float and I'm thinking this van with the diesel motor would be good for pulling that sucker.
Thereby we could get a nice small cheap 4cyl car for our runaround and use the van to do the occassional tow.

I know nothing about diesel motors.
Is it really worth paying the extra $4500 for one?

What are the benefits, which motor would you go for and why?
TIA
