agree with Mitch. with the amount of money left over you could tune the nissan. and there will be plenty of aftermarket gear.

Not againg!

My 1200Hp supra can beat the nissan and then some.
Tunning doesnt make a good car just so know. Unless you just wana go fast, I suggest u get a civic or my supra and they're more of a bargaing than the R35GT-R.

Cant people just like cars for what they are, its the cancer thats killing super cars.

I hav a 911 turbo and can only say that i will never ever go looking for the outer envelope of its performance....it is a truly scary peice of work. A porsche is a Porsche and a Nissan is a Nissan - no matter how fast it goes.

When will the madness end? 0 - 100k in NIL seconds!!!

Liam - hehe that's interesting, do you have aftermarket suspension?

I have stiffer coilovers set 1" lower than standard height in my GT-R and it causes problems when trying to enter many driveways or negotiate an underground carpark.

Haha, my Cooper S and the ol girl's GTI lift their inside rear wheel going into our driveway every day. And our drive is pretty damn flat. Does that mean we can can swap either for a GT2?

Just appreciating the 911 for what it is as well as a classic design and a thing of beauty irrespective of price.

Seems there are people on here with some sense; Tom and Pat E.

Lcat, wouldn’t that be funny, taking the GT2 to Coles. I would think the standard 911 would be sufficient to fill both duties there but a GT2? If the suspension travel is anything like the GT3 RS, which lifts a wheel whenever you go over even a shallow driveway at an angle, one would probably advise against taking a GT2 to the shops…

Walter at interview stated the GT2 was a "dual purpose car - one that could be taken to the shop to buy bread through the week and the racetrack at the weekend" He must like his bread hot!

What is it with people and absolutes here.

We are talking a go-fast version of a fast-going car here. The GT-R is targetting Porsche Turbos, not the GT2 or GT3.

The fact remains that different kinds of people would buy either car. Sure their performance is similar, but the price means these cars aren't really competing. There will only be a very small demographic that would choose the Nissan over the Porsche because of the price. Porsche people will buy the Porsche, and others will buy the Nissan.

If I was going to contest a race series, I'd save myself the cash and buy the Nissan. But I'm not in the market, so it does not matter.

Neither do I have some vicarious interest in who's car goes quicker for what money. I love Porsches, always have. Would love to own one. I also love the GT-R and would own one in a flash if I could.

Comparisons are a good way to evaluate cars, but you gotta bring the whole picture into it, not whether one can reach 100kmh 0.1 secs quicker.

BTW, Caparo T1? WTF? Who really cares? This is a case in point. That car isn't even in the same league. So what if it is so bloody fast. It doesn't compare. It doesn't even run reliably and bits fall off it. Awesome power and interesting in its own right, but should not be mentioned in this discussion.

Maybe we should bring the Veyron into this discussion, too, as Godspeed pointed out, satirically?

I'm Godspeed, you need to put things into prespective here, as others have said there is a massive difference in price, and to be honest, i would expect a better class of car for that money!

Nonetheless, the porsche is amazing and i wonder if it will live up to the 996's nickname of "Widowmaker" lol

Firstly, the Porsche 911 (whatever version) is a superb car and I would absolutely love one.

But comments like "Stick that up your pipe and smoke it Nissan" or "I've just crossed out the GT-R on my to-buy list and have the GT2 instead".....

THE 911 GT2 COSTS SOMETHING IN THE ORDER OF $350,000 PLUS.

It's a ludicrous comparison that people are drawing in real-world terms. It's like saying Holden or Vauxhall have just engineered a Commodore / Omega to do the Nurburgring in 7'45 and does 0-100 in 4.0 seconds yet costs USD $50,000, but I'm crossing it off my shopping list because I'm going to buy a $1,000,000 Veyron instead, because it's quicker.

Ridiculous.

Hey Chaser............yep I know that will be their first if they do finally get it into production! You think with their first attempt it will come close to what Nissan have been producing already for years.....and they are chasing Porsche.

Brilliant piece of car there and the lap time is quite impressive indeed.

BM - Lexus is aiming at performance yes. Don't tell me you're not intouch with the progress on the LF-A.
