MINI Countryman WRC road car in the works: rumour

Various reports and rumours have been circulating lately about a MINI Countryman WRC car for the road: a street legal version of the brand-new 2011 MINI WRC car.

The new WRC car was only revealed at the Paris motor show last year, but rumours are already spreading the idea of a street legal version. Subaru and Mitsubishi have been coming up with road-going versions of their World Rally Championship cars for years, with the Subaru Impreza STI Spec C and various FQ versions of the Lancer, it doesn't seem completely out of the question for MINI to come up with a car of its own.

If such as version was created, it would likely include an even more powerful engine than the current John Cooper Works unit. The car would also receive vast body changes such as a pumped out, aggressive, wide bodykit studded with scoops and vents. Matched to the car's all-wheel drive system, a MINI Countryman WRC special would rival the likes of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution nicely.

Of course, this is just a rumour at this stage, however, MINI hasn't confirmed nor denied the possibility that such a car might exist in the future. We'll have to wait and see.
