Mach7 Motorsports Falcon with 477kW at Detroit

How does a Falcon with 477kW of power and a sub-3.5 second 0-100km/h time sound to you?

Before you Ford fan boys salivate all over your keyboards, this is no Aussie-made super sedan.

The unveiling of the Mach7 Motorsports Falcon went a little under the radar at the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit last month, but its familiar nameplate certainly got our attention.

Best known as a Dodge Viper tuner, Mach7 Motorsports says its Falcon is still a work in progress, but is expected to be ready for production later this year.

Built out of the tuner’s Michigan factory in the US, Mach7 plans to build just 15 examples of the supercar every year.

Ford fans might squirm when they hear what’s under the bonnet: a choice of a Corvette LS3 V8 with 373kW or a General Motors LS9 with 477kW.

Official performance data is yet to be revealed, although given its 1293kg weight, figures better than the less powerful and heavier Viper (0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds, 325km/h top speed) are expected.

Built on a hydroformed aluminium chassis and covered in carbon fibre, the Falcon looks a lot like the new Lotus range with a few extra cutouts and intakes for a more aggressive appearance.

Prices for the Mach7 Motorsports Falcon will start around $US200,000 when US deliveries begin around the end of the year.
