Aston Martin has released a harder edged version of their wonderful V8 Vantage with more power, more torque, and it’s called the V8 Vantage S.

The bespoke 4.7-litre V8 engine has been tuned to deliver  321kW and 490Nm and is mated with a brand new Sportshift 11 transmission.

Top speed for the Vantage S is 305km/h (189mph), although 0-100km/h sprint times have not been confirmed.

Enthusiasts worldwide rejoiced when the original 4.3-litre V8 was up rated to the current displacement of 4.7-litres, in keeping with one of the best sports car platforms in the business. Anyone who had ever driven the Vantage quickly realised that the chassis was capable of handling more power.

With the V8 Vantage S, the performance package increases further still. Dr. Ulrich Bez, CEO of Aston Martin said of the car:

“The Vanatge S epitomises every attribute of the V8 Vantage and pushes the driver experience beyond what we have offered before. It combines dynamic exhilaration with all the charming finesse, beauty and practicality already associated with the Vantage range.”

At the heart of the Vantage S is the all-new Sportshift 11 transmission, a seven-speed automated manual unit, which provides seven short ratio gears and shift times that are 20 per cent quicker than the current Sportshift box. Acceleration is also enhanced due to the spread of the gear ratios and the shorter final drive ratio.

Opting for a single clutch transmission means reduced weight and complexity when compared with a dual-clutch unit, and something that is paramount with a luxury sports car package such as the Vantage.

The inspiration for the Vantage S is the brilliant Vantage GT4 race car. Brilliant because of its super rigid bonded aluminium chassis – the perfect platform for a sharp edged and successful racer. In 2010 the GT4 won it’s class at the Dubai 24 Hours along with more endurance race wins at Nurburgring, Silverstone, and Spa.

The Vantage has always been blessed with razor sharp steering, but the Vantage S tightens it up further with a faster response steering ratio of 15:1 compared with the standard car’s 17:1.

The brakes have been beefed up too with larger front rotors with new six-pot calipers, to handle the extra performance.

There’s a ‘Sport’ button too for quicker gear changes and a more aggressive throttle response for an all-round more potent driving experience.

The standard Vantage has one of the best engine notes on the planet, up there with Ferrari’s 458, but in this case, it gets better as the exhaust bypass valves open up across most of the rev range.

Many of the styling cues of the Vantage S come directly from the V12 Vantage, from the hand-laid carbon fibre front splitter to the more pronounced rear deck flip, for not only a more aggressive stance, but also greater aerodynamic efficiency.

Aston Martin Design Director, Marek Reichman described the car when he said:

“We have taken the V8 Vantage to the gym to give the ‘S’ more definition and more muscularity resulting in a more toned form.”

The new 19-inch ‘V’ spoke wheels are unique to the Vantage S, but buyers can option a set of forged alloys for a half a kilo saving at each corner.

The standard Vantage interior is bespoke and timeless, but the ‘S’ has been given special treatment to reflect the sharper edge of this car. Those features include a three-track stich on the seats and door trim, as well as a new folded leather design along the stitch tracks.

You might also want to take a peep at the optional carbon fibre and Kevlar seats, which will not only provide more bolster, but also save a significant 17 kilos per car. Although the seats are hand trimmed by Aston Martin craftspeople at Gaydon a supplier to the motorsport and aviation industries fabricates them.

Buyers can also choose an Obsidian Black leather or Alcantara trimmed steering wheel with a contrasting or matching stitch for the leather version.

As with all Aston Martins, each Vantage S is properly hand built at company headquarters at Gaydon in the UK alongside its V8 and V12 siblings.

Total man hours required to build Vantage S is in excess of 185, which includes 50 man hours to paint and a staggering 70 man hours to hand trim the cabin.

Prospective customers are able to place their orders now from Aston Martin’s global dealership network.

Pricing has not been set at this time, but indications from Aston Martin in Australia are that the Vantage ‘S’ will be priced at around a 10 per cent premium over the model range.
