2011 Fiat Freemont Geneva Motor Show preview

Fiat has revealed a preview of the new Fiat Freemont which is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. It's one of the first cars to be unveiled showcasing the partnership between Fiat and Chrysler/Dodge.

The Fiat Freemont is largely based on the Dodge Journey, only it uses an all-new Fiat-designed front bumper bar and front grille fascia. Even so, Fiat says the car was developed 'to meet the diverse needs of families and those seeking a spacious, comfortable and versatile vehicle to cater for the frenetic pace of everyday life or weekend leisure time'.

It's not really brand new model, but Fiat says the car also gets bespoke 'Fiat' steering and suspension to improve the car's ride quality and also help the MPV be a little more lively and active on tight European roads. The new Fiat model is also said to get improved sound-deadening throughout the cabin compared with the Dodge counterpart.

The Freemont will be available, initially, in front-wheel drive format, powered by a 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine offering either 104kW or 127kW of power. After its launch an all-wheel drive version will also enter the market using the higher-spec 2.0-litre MulitJet engine, matched to an automatic gearbox.

The Fiat Freemont is expected to go on sale in international markets during the second-half of this year, after making its official debut in Geneva on March 3.
