2016 Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe teased on race track

The Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe has been officially teased, for a second time ahead of its debut next month, via new photos that show a prototype undergoing testing at the Hockenheim track in Germany.

If, as expected, the C63 coupe takes its drivetrain straight from the sedan, it will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8. In regular guise this motor produces 350kW of power and 650Nm of torque. In the step up S model, power is ratcheted up to 375kW and torque lifted to 700Nm.

Fitted with rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic transmission, the regular C63 sedan can run from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds, while the C63 S sedan does the same feat in 4.0 seconds.

The latest teaser follows on from photos released earlier this month, which show the coupe's camouflaged front-end up close and in greater detail.

We know from earlier spy photos of both the regular two-door and the faster AMG variants, that the new coupe will feature a front-end that's virtually identical to the sedan and wagon models that are already in showrooms. At the rear, the coupe shares plenty of design cues with the larger S-Class coupe, including its thin, almost rectangular, tail-lights.

Additionally, the new coupe will sport frameless windows and flagpole-style wing mirrors, and will sprout a convertible version down the line.

The new Mercedes-AMG C63 coupe will be unveiled in just over three weeks time. The car will then receive its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show in the middle of September.
