A military truck heading to Townsville has destroyed a petrol station in Queensland – with photos and videos of the armoured vehicle wedged at the entrance of a petrol bowser circulating on social media.

The incident is believed to have occurred this week at an Ampol service station in Sarina, a rural town located in North Queensland.

A Department of Defence spokesperson told the ABC no one was injured in the incident and the vehicle – an armoured MAN truck – was on its way to a military exercise before smashing through the petrol station.

“The vehicles were travelling from Brisbane to Townsville for Exercise Vigilant Scimitar.

“Defence is working with Queensland Police to secure the area and remove the vehicle from the site,” the Defence spokesperson said to the ABC.

In the photo, the Ampol station can be seen with structural damages to its support beams and petrol pumps – with one bowser slightly tipped over.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson told the media outlet no fuel was spilled as Ampol workers immediately turned the fuel line’s power off.
