Electric Toyota HiLux: Production confirmed
Toyota has confirmed it will begin making an EV HiLux ute by the end of 2025, with exports looking likely.
The 2026 Toyota HiLux will be available with an electric variant in selected markets, the company has confirmed.
Less than two months after Toyota announced it was working on a production version of the battery-powered HiLux Revo BEV concept displayed in Australia last year, an executive has told news outlet Reuters it intends to begin manufacturing the electric ute by the end of 2025.
While the vehicle will be made in Thailand primarily for the Thai market, Toyota Motors Asia Executive Vice President Pras Ganesh said the car maker was also considering exporting the electric HiLux.
Given Toyota's Australian engineers were some of the few given early access to the HiLux Revo back in late 2023, there's a chance the model could be introduced to local ute-loving buyers here.
The Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux, and Isuzu D-Max – Australia's Top-Three selling utes – are all made in Thailand.
Approximately a dozen pre-production versions of the electric HiLux are currently undergoing a trial in Thailand as the single-cab, short-range Revo BEV concept.
It is yet to be confirmed whether an electric HiLux will be produced with a dual-cab body.
