2025 Kia EV6 electric car facelift revealed with longer range, due in Australia this year

The Kia EV6 EV has been updated with a new look, longer driving range and more modern infotainment system ahead of local showroom arrivals later this year.

The facelifted 2025 Kia EV6 electric car has been unveiled with new styling, updated interior technology and a longer driving range, ahead of Australian arrivals due by the end of this year.

The EV6 – which has been on sale in South Korea for three years – has come in for its mid-life upgrade, gaining many of the latest features seen in its freshly-updated Hyundai Ioniq 5 sibling, as well as the larger Kia EV9 electric SUV.

According to a Kia Australia spokesperson, the updated EV6 is due in Australian showrooms between October and December this year, pending any delays.

Air and GT-Line trim levels are due first, ahead of the high-performance GT model a few months later. Prices are yet to be announced; the current model ranges from $72,590 to $99,590 plus on-road costs.

Leading the changes is a larger 84kWh battery (up from 77.4kWh) good for up to 494km of claimed driving range in South Korean testing – which is more stringent than the European WLTP standard yet to be quoted by Kia Australia for this version.

There remains a choice of rear-wheel drive with one 168kW/350Nm electric motor, and all-wheel drive with dual motors developing 239kW/605Nm.

Kia claims an identical 10 to 80 per cent recharge time of 18 minutes when plugged into a "350kW charger" – though independent testing of the current EV6 and its twins under the skin has shown the real-world maximum charging power is closer to 250kW.

Details of the facelifted EV6 GT are yet to be announced. The current model develops 430kW/740Nm.

Exterior changes revealed this week include a restyled front fascia with angular new 'Star Map' adaptive LED headlights, new 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheel designs, a tweaked full-width LED tail-light signature, and a new rear bumper.

The GT-Line variant continues to benefit from unique front and rear styling, as well as different 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the EV6's dual 12.3-inch screens now run the Hyundai group's latest 'ccNC' software, with new graphics, and if the existing EV9 and Sorento are a guide, wireless Apple CarPlay for the first time in models with embedded satellite navigation.

There is a new steering wheel – with two spokes in regular models, or three in the GT-Line – now with power column adjustment.

Newly fitted to the steering wheel is a capacitive sensor to detect the driver's hands when it is in lane-centring assist mode – rather than requiring the driver to tug or apply turning force to the wheel to remind the car they are alert and in control of the car.

Other interior changes include; a new row of touch-sensitive controls for the heated/ventilated seats and heated steering wheel, a fingerprint reader to start the car, and augmented reality views for the satellite navigation.

Kia Connect smartphone app functionality is due to be introduced for the facelifted model in Australia.

There is also new Highway Driving Assist 2 semi-autonomous driving software with assisted lane changes, updated smartphone-as-a-key function, an in-built dashcam, and rear-side airbags (for a total of 10).

The Remote Smart Park Assist function – which allows the car to be moved at low speeds into parking space from the key fob – has been updated to be more accurate, and can now navigate the car into diagonal spaces.

The 2025 Kia EV6 is on sale now in South Korea. It is due in local showrooms by the end of this year.
